Frito
Lay WMS Case Study
Retrotech provides a warehouse management
system (wms) for fortune 50 company, permanently reducing
warehouse costs. This Fortune 50 client required a Warehouse
Management System (WMS) that would enable accurate, on-time
orders, sequenced loading for multi-drop direct-store-delivery,
and support of pick-to-belt operations.
ACTIV Warehouse
Management Systems
The ACTIV System's was ideal because
of its high-density characteristics. The ACTIV wms system in
this application runs 24 hours a day. In operation, forklifts
move palletized finished goods from manufacturing into the
ACTIV input point where bar-coding technology scans the
unit loads into the ACTIV wms system. Software calculates the optimum path for each load and the systems basic components work in unison to move the load through the wms system in the most efficient manner to service order requirements.
The forklift operator uses a RF terminal on the forklift to sign onto the applicable staging slot.
As each load is brought off a staging lane, the ACTIV System updates automatically.
For positive verification of an order, the forklift operator scans a bar code
that corresponds to the dock door to which the load is delivered. This information
is then provided to the client's Warehouse Management System
(WMS). The WMS electronically communicates SKU assignments to the ACTIV System,
which in turn controls pick face replenishment.

transfer and trailer load time is reduced. Peak shipping
periods can be accommodated with fewer personnel and less
overtime.
Maintenance
improvements . . . System maintenance simplified—Normal
periodic inspection and maintenance takes place outside
the rack structure.
Shrinkage savings . . . Multiple handling
damage eliminated—ACTIV's gentle
handling capability and its ability to accommodate variable
pallet sizes virtually eliminates product damage.
Productivity improvements . .
. Value-added
processes supported—ACTIV’s Path
Management Software manages the complex flows created
