Automated
Racking
Retrotech Application Engineering utilizes
a wide variety of racking products, developed under RMI standards,
to suit your project requirements.
Racking, automated racking,
and rack-supported warehouses have come into common usage
over the last few decades. In such warehouses, the building
or a major portion of the building is simply a layer hung
on the sides of the rack system, with the roof also supported
by the racks. |

Although
this routine will increase the loading of the racks above
that are required to support the stored material, the increase
is usually modest, in
the neighborhood of 5-10% per square foot.
This figure should be used suitably since, in actuality, cubic feet of space
represent a more significant variable than square feet. The greatest advantage
comes not from these gains but also from a tax advantage. Rack-supported, ASRS
buildings including automated racking can be treated as equipment rather than
buildings
for depreciation purposes.

Automated Racking History
ASRS Software and IT is naturally crucial to automated racking use and operation. Computers tell the distribution personnel where to store the incoming unit loads, when and where to move to the picking face, the sequence in which to pick, and what and when to reorder.
